Nothing like a good jump in the lake... which for me has turned into a lifelong swim in icy waters. Despite not making any publicly recognizable bestseller lists I'd never dream of climbing out of the frigid pools of indie publishing. Not only am I determined to develop a better "stroke" I'm looking to plunge into new streams and explore what all the cool waters have to offer readers from my fingertips.
Nothing makes writing more productive and fulfilling to me than listening to music while my fingers fly across the keyboard. Even as I'm plotting and allowing my creativity to flow without bounds while I outline the lives and happenings of the characters putting together a playlist while working is less a "creature comfort" and more of a necessity. Music for me offers an added layer to my writing atmosphere that results in a better experience for my readers.
Participating in National Novel Writing Month is a joy I've experienced many times over the years. The energy of writing with hundreds of thousands of other writers around the world is something that can only be understood by being part of the furor. "Mama Maya's" amazing words on writing are nothing short of inspiring and empathetic to the hearts, lives and writing experiences of many.
There is a great skill, tenacity, and gift in being able to write about yourself in a way that others feel liberated and empowered. The artistry shared in every word Maya Angelou shared in her books.
I love the thought of the need to write as a "heat." For me, my fiction writing is an undying flame. Starting as a slow ember, increasing in intensity until it roars with each breath of inspiration.
